In the town of Gold Lick, Jeff (Taylor Sharpe) accidentally releases an old Chinese god of vengeance and bean curd, Guan-Di. Guan-Di wants vengeance on the people of Gold Lick for the deaths of many Chinese in a mine pit. As Gold Lick natives turn up dead, Jeff talks the townspeople into seeking help from movie icon, Bruce Campbell. But the egotistical, cowardly Campbell has a long way to go before he can become the hero the town needs.
I found this movie very enjoyable, but then I am a Bruce Campbell fan. I relished listening for references to Campbell's other work. I laughed at his portrayal of himself as a shallow, washed up has been. But in that mock self-portrayal we also see Bruce Campbell as an effective comic actor.
Admittedly, I can't guarantee that those who are not fans of Bruce Campbell and his work will enjoy the film. It seems to be a film made strictly for Bruce's fans. I'm cool with that, and I'm looking forward to the sequel, Bruce vs. Frankenstein, but I think it limits My Name Is Bruce's
And just for the record, best line of the film comes after a Gold Lick native says that he kind of liked Bubba Ho-Tep
